Her Story

Self-taught jewelry maker and designer, Rita Cox needed to fill the empty hours after her daughter McKenzie went away to college.
A new venture began.
Rita has a unique style for matching fine and costume jewelry with modern and vintage clothing. Admiring her mother’s flair for southern elegance, she has always had an eye for seeing beauty in everyday things. Using semi-precious stones, found items, leather, metal, and refashioned natural stones; she has created a new look for women’s jewelry. Her business has flourished while she has learned to use a grinder, drill press, and new jewelry making techniques. The “learn as you go” thought process has allowed the designs to be constantly evolving, which is exciting for the designer and customer.
Rita helps women discover accessories that enhance their personalities and closets. She is always on the search for new and unusual materials to turn into jewelry while combing estate sales, local businesses, and a rock hound’s private collection in Dothan, Alabama. Her personal excitement for jewelry continues to inspire her to grow her business. From playing in her mother’s jewelry box to enjoying an empty nester’s hobby, Rita’s lifelong passion has moved her to the next step of creating this company. Rita Cox Jewelry serves as a wonderful testament to Rita's passion for accessory design.
